DETAILS:

The Gleaners Warren Distribution Center provides surplus and low-cost food and personal care products to people in need in southeastern Michigan. Gleaners fulfills its role with a sense of compassion and urgency, recognizing that in many cases, it is the only resource of emergency food for persons in need. Today, one in five Michigan children under the age of 18 years resides in a household getting food stamps. More than 250,000 school children in the tri-county area are eligible for free or reduced-priced lunches.

The name Gleaners comes from the Bible. It tells how farmers left some grain in the field after they harvested each fall so poor people could pick up or "glean" what was left to feed themselves.

I hope you and your family can be a part of this wonderful program. Annually, over 6,500 volunteers contribute to an amazing 20,000 hours of labor and pack 2.7 million pounds of canned, dry and frozen foods.

New families will receive a tour of the facility, we will then proceed with whatever jobs need to be accomplished that day. It could be anything from packing boxes, to checking dates or filling snack bags. A group picture is usually taken after we are done. You may access the picture about 2 weeks after the outing by clicking on the following website and selecting the date attended at the location.

Community service credit is available to any interested party. Just be sure to bring the necessary paperwork and our contact will be happy to sign it for you. This is a monthly event.

Peace,
