Technical Drawing, 12:20-1:35, ages 13 & up, $63 plus $11 supply fee
Do you love to draw in a technical way?  Learn the basics of drafting, creating 2D and 3D drawings in geometric construction and basic perspective.  As a final project, draw a building, house, or interior technical drawing perspective colored with water colors.  New and returning students welcome.  Instructor:  Carmen Fernandez

Uncle Tom's Cabin, 12:20, ages 13 & up, $46 + $2
Students will read this classic by Harriet Beecher Stowe at home, and study it’s meaning in class as a group.  This book was influential in stirring up strong antislavery emotions leading up to the Civil War.  Special attention will be drawn to the Christian world view that was the foundation for Uncle Tom's life choices.  Students will compare Uncle Tom's behavior with Martin Luther King's nonviolent protests in the twentieth century, and recognize the Christian underpinnings to the abolitionist movement of the 18th and 19th centuries.  Bring your own book to class, not included.  Instructor:  Lisa Rathbun

Drama Teens, 1:30, ages 5–9, $46
A fun Drama class of verbal and non-verbal communication form.  Kids will come up with their own ideas of who, what, where, creative situations, character development, pantomime, facial expressions and gestures.  Skills mastered will be used in production at the end of course.  Instructor:  Deb Weathers-Jablonski (she’s back!)

Robotic Arduino, 10:50, ages 12 & up, $46 plus $15 supply fee, BYO Laptop
Arduino is a board with a microchip on it.  It is programmed using a computer, and can sense imputs from switches and sensors.  It can also control outputs such as LEDs and monitors.  In this class we’ll set up switches and then attempt a simple robot. Instructor:  Jared Piro

Intro to Java, 1:30, ages 12 & up, $46, BYO Laptop
In this class we will learn how to write software using Java.  Java is a standard language usable on all major operating systems.  With this system, you can learn the language to learn the concepts to make bigger and better programs.  We’ll make applications to read user input from the keyboard and print text to the screen.  Instructor:  Jared Piro

French Teens, 9:50, ages 12 & up, $46 plus $2 supply fee
Study French language and culture in a great group immersion setting.  This course includes all the basics of language study – vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, culture, and practice.  Instructor:  Roseanna Ondra

Fitted Pattern Sewing, 10:50, ages 12 & up, $58, BYO Machine
AKA Project Runway!  Come learn how to make a fitted pattern.  Supplies purchased by student (you can pick your own).  On first day of class, please bring a hanger, two rolls of duct tape, and a tight fitting shirt.  Instructor:  Tessa Hawkes

Happily Ever After, 10:50, ages 12 & up, $46 + $2 supply fee
Students will compare modern renditions of old tales (especially Disney movies) compared to the original stories, observing how darker tales were made more palatable for today's view of what's appropriate for children. The Write Shop 2 Continued 1:45-3:30, 7 weeks, 6th to 10th grade, $77
This class will continue on with lesson 25-32.  Prerequisite:  The Write Shop 1, or IEW (contact instructor to assess). This is part one of a two part series.  Students can earn ½ credit of composition for high school credit.  Note:  no Write Shop on 3/15.  Book is available on web site.  Instructor:  Debbye Rheker

Teen Ceramics, 10:50, ages 12 & up, $57 plus $12 supply fee
Students in this class will be guided in developing both sculptural and functional ceramic pieces while learning about clay and handbuilding techniques. Students will be offered projects that will allow them to explore the material while developing their own "voice" to put into their pieces.  Different pieces are learned each term, so new or returning students welcome.  Note:  No ceramics on 10/5.  Instructor: Tracey Priska

Intro to Electronics, 9:50, ages 11 & up, $46 + $5
Learn some of the basic concepts of electronics such as oms law, and wiring circuits in parallel and in series.  Make circuits with LEDs, resistor, switches, capacitors, etc. We'll also go over basic logic gates in this interesting electronics class.  New and returning students welcome.  Instructor:  Jared Piro

Building More Structures, 12:20, ages 10-13, $46 plus $5 supply fee
Learn about building structures such as draw bridges, and then build some as a group.  Use materials like dowels, pipe cleaners, and cardboard to erect smaller models of some of these structures standing in the real world.  New and returning students welcome as structures change each term.  Instructor:  Jared Piro

Expressive Photography, 12:20, ages 10 & up, $46 plus $10.  BYO camera
Are you comfortable with your camera and want to step into a new and creative direction?
Come use photography to express yourselves and explore the world around you. In this class we get into dramatic effects and editing. Students will be assigned a photo project per week which we will discuss as a class together. Basic editing will be taught using Picasa 3 and uploaded to a class page on the web every week. Parental involvement may be required on assignments and downloading images to the web. A digital camera and SD card are required. Instructor: Shannon Morais

Art with Carmen, 9:30-10:45, or 10:50-12:00, ages 9 & up, $63 plus $14 supply fee
Develop your own theme, focusing on your own inspiration.  Use your vision to create a beautiful piece of art.  Draw the ideas, texture and paint with oil on stretched canvas in this fine arts class.  Instructor:  Carmen Fernandez, Architect and Artist

Cross Fit, 1:30, ages 9-13, $46
Grow up healthy and strong with a lifelong love of working out, thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity!  Children will push, pull, run, throw, climb, lift, jump, effectively and safely, regardless of whether or not they play athletics. During this program, the coach will educate your child on the importance of making their bodies powerful, enriching their mindsbuilding strong character, creating rewarding experiences, and developing a sense of pride.  We require that kids wear tennis shoes for this program.  Parents welcome!  Instructor:  Jeremey Ouellette

Machine Sewing 101, 12:20, ages 9 & up, $58 plus $15, BYO Machine
Come learn how to use a sewing machine and basic sewing techniques.  Bring your sewing machine weekly.  If you do not have one, contact Tessa at 248.770.3306.  We will be making reusable snack bags, a tote bag, and if time allows us a craft of the children’s choice. Instructor:  Tessa Hawkes  

Sing Out!  12:20, ages 8 and up, $46 plus $10
If you enjoy singing and dancing like Glee, American Idol, High School Musical, and The Sing-Off, then this class is for you.  We will learn to sing and dance while having a great time.  Even if you’ve never been in a show choir before, this class is for you!  Come dressed for movement.  New and returning students welcome.  Instructor: Gina Holben

Cake Decorating, 10:50, ages 8 & up, $46 plus $30 supply fee
Learn the basics of cake decorating, from applying icing to designing a cake. From different borders, several flowers, figure piping, & more, students will learn different techniques.  Students will bring home cakes & cupcakes on specific weeks, and will display their final cake during production, before bringing it home.  Instructor:  Cindy Giraud

Cake Decorating-Intermediate, 9:50, ages 8 & up, $46 plus $30 supply fee
Building on the skills learned in Cake Decorating, students will learn new techniques using butter cream icing, royal icing, & fondant. Techniques include: covering a cake with fondant, fondant flowers, royal icing flowers and accents, brushed embroidery, basket weave, the rose and more.  Students will bring home cakes & cupcakes on specific weeks, and will display their final cake during production before bringing it home.  Prerequisite - completion of Cake Decorating or equivalent experience.  Instructor:  Cindy Giraud

Creative Photography, 10:50, ages 8 & up, $46 plus $10 supply. BYO camera
Come learn some basic camera fundamentals of composition, including rule of thirds, artistic elements of lighting and creative perspectives. It’s all about being creative.  Students will learn some basic editing and be assigned a photo project per week which we will discuss as a class together.  Required:  Digital camera and SD card brought to class weekly.  Basic editing will be taught using Picasa 3 and uploaded to a class page on the web every week. A group guitar class including tuning, notation, chords, strumming patterns, and more!  Beginners and beyond are welcome.  Acoustic/electric reviewed.  Bring your own guitar, or recommendations for rental are available.  Instructor:  Neal Wright

Hip Hop Intermediate and Up, 10:50, ages 8 & up, $58
Experience requested.  Let’s move!  An awesome class for all, with clean lyrics!  In hip-hop we will be focusing on the rhythm and the beat of the music, coordinating our movements to go with that beat, and incorporating other styles of dance.  Please wear comfortable fitting shorts/pants and t-shirts with clean tennis shoes or jazz shoes.  Instructor:  Jennifer Pierson

Hip Hop/Broadway Mix, Street Moves, 9:50, ages 8 & up, $58
An awesome class for all, with clean lyrics!  We will incorporate the hip hop/street style moves with Broadway style and perform songs from some of the latest Broadway hits like “The Heights” or “Newsies”.  Please wear comfortable fitting shorts/pants and t-shirts with clean tennis shoes or jazz shoes.  Instructor:  Jennifer Pierson

Narnia Begins!  9:50, ages 8-13, $46 + $2 supply fee
Go back to the very beginnings of the magical land of Narnia as we discuss C. S. Lewis's book "The Magician's Nephew."  Classroom activities will include discussion, journaling, and improv.  Students will need to have a copy of the book to read at home. (Each class will cover about two chapters.)  It is preferable that students be familiar with the story of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" but it is not a requirement.  Instructor:  Lisa Rathbun

Chess, Advanced Beginner, 12:20, ages 7-13, 7 weeks, $41
Returning students only, please.  Classes include chess play with coaching by teacher, group chess puzzle solving, and specific tactical training (the decoy, forced checkmate, and more).  Variations on these tactics will be explored.  One class may consist of a level-appropriate instructional chess video.  Homework (chess puzzles) of 15 minutes per week will be given.  Please bring your yellow chess book to class weekly.  Note:  No class on 1/25.  Instructor:  U.S. Chess Federation Chess Expert Alexander Przybylski Deatrick, and Michelle Deatrick

Young Scientists, 12:20, ages 7-10, $46 + $5 supply fee
Each week there will be a new scientific concept to discuss.  We will have fun learning and reinforcing these concepts through games and observations.  Your kids will learn to think like scientists as weekly we go over the Scientific Method, and finish with an experiment! Instructor:  Rachel Mahrle

Contemporary Jazz, 12:20, ages 6 & up, $58
From Broadway to the movies, jazz can be found anywhere.  Come and learn some fun steps which will create awesome, full-length dances. We will dance and get some energy out! Attire:  Girls - “yoga” pants or tights and leotard, jazz or ballet shoes.  Boys - t-shirt and athletic shorts, jazz or ballet shoes.  All long hair pulled back securely, please no hair in face.  Instructor:   Jennifer Pierson

Tales of Hans Christian Anderson, 1:25-2:20, ages 6-10, $46 + $3
With captivating stories, Hans Christian Andersen is remembered as one of the most creative and widely read fairy tales author to live. Each week, students will hear one of Anderson's stories such as "The Princess and the Pea" and "The Ugly Duckling" followed by a dramatic reenactment or craft about the story.  Instructor: Lisa Rathbun


Beginner and Intermediate Tap, 12:20, ages 6 & up, $46
The rapid footing patterns of tap dancing are exceptionally fun for kids!   It encourages rhythm, synchronization, precision, and teamwork.  Dress ready to dance, but no long bell bottomed pants or dresses/skirts that fall under the knee, please.  Long hair should be pulled back securely.  Black tap shoes are required.  New and returning students welcome.  Instructor:  Deanna Irwin

Youth Ceramics, 9:50, ages 6–11, $57 plus $12 supply fee
In this class students learn how to shape clay using basic handbuilding techniques. We will be exploring the use of slabs, coils and pinch pots to make both functional and sculptural pieces and allowing room for personal exploration & discovery.  New and returning students welcome. Instructor:  Tracey Priska

New and Returning Students: Come learn, understand, and ultimately speak a new language.  These adventure-filled lessons incorporate storytelling, music, movement, art and dramatic play.  Parents are welcome to join in on the learning fun, but are not required to do so. Instructor:  Roseanna Ondra

Ballet & Tap Dancing, 10:50, ages 6 & up, $46
 We will devote half of the class time to tap and the other half to ballet. Students have the choice of wearing street clothes or dance attire. Tap shoes are available at Payless, but are not required as hard soled shoes would suffice. The same goes for ballet shoes, they too are available at Payless but socks would be accepted. Kids will learn a fun routine to perform at the end of the semester and the students will choose whether the dance will be tap or ballet.  Instructor:  Deanna Irwin

Learn how to read notes, play songs by ear, music theory, piano technique, and even create your own song!  Gina Holben has a Master’s Degree in Music Education and 15 years of experience teaching piano. Please bring a Portable Piano Keyboard to class. Crafty Kids, 9:50, ages 3-6, $46 + $5
We will work on a fun new craft every week using many different mediums.  Come ready to get a bit crafty!  Rolling up your sleeves and bringing one of your dad’s old t-shirts to wear is a great cover up idea.  Instructor:  Rebecca Richardson

Tots Ballet, 1:20-1:50, ages 3-6, $58
Tots Ballet is an adorable class for young children who may or may not have experience in dance.  Ballet technique is the foundation for every style of dance; jazz, modern, ballroom, and even hip-hop!  Girls: Pink or black Leotard, Pink or white Tights, Ballet Shoes.  Boys: White T-Shirt, Black light cotton pants (no sweats), ballet shoes.  All long hair pulled back securely in a ponytail or bun, please no hair in face. Instructor:  Jennifer Pierson.

More Adventures in Literature, 10:50, ages 3–6, $46
Each week we'll enjoy the adventures of a classic children's book, and then enjoy activities that go along with our story.  We'll play games, create art projects and explore social studies, math and science concepts from the story.  Always a new subject, every term!  Instructor: Amanda Gehrke

Fun with Soccer, 1:30, ages 3-6, $46
Come play in a fun class for young students to learn the basics of soccer, while burning off energy.  We will work on dribbling, passing and shooting. Students should bring a size 3 ball, if possible, and a water bottle.  Dress ready to play!  Instructor:  Rebecca Richardson

French for Tots, 12:20, ages 3-6, $46 plus $3 supply fee
New and Returning Students: Come learn in a full-immersion French class through a variety of proven methods to teach kids to understand, and ultimately speak, a new language.  These adventure-filled lessons incorporate storytelling, music, movement, art and dramatic play.  Basic grammar will also be introduced at the Elementary Level.  Parents are welcome to join in on the learning fun, but are not required to do so. Instructor:  Roseanna Ondra
